Conversion to Judaism

The Central Synagogue is proud to offer complete support to those interested in embracing our faith – from the initial ‘conversion conversation’ to ultimately becoming a member of our tribe!

Under the expert mentorship and guidance of Rabbi Mendel Treitel, a valued member of our team who also spearheads Central’s Academy of Jewish Education, we offer weekly conversion classes that are uniquely tailor-made for each individual or family unit.

There is a committed cohort of attendees who participate in our Shabbat services and who also join our mid-week classes together within our main campus. This collective yearning for learning creates camaraderie and ensures a phenomenal foundation of both emotional and spiritual nourishment.

The process of geirut, or conversion, is a profound journey encompassing both study and observance. Throughout the tutoring and teaching, all questions will be answered patiently and knowledge is garnered in the most natural and sensitive way – we will be with you through every step of the process.

The Central Synagogue’s popular conversion courses operate under the strict auspices of the Sydney Beth Din – the Jewish Ecclesiastical Court. Respected international Orthodox standards are maintained, purposefully ensuring the enduring integrity of this lifetime commitment, as many navigate the path to becoming a meaningful member of the Jewish faith. With Rabbi Mendel’s comprehensive tutelage, each conversion is then ultimately assessed by rabbinic members of the Sydney Beth Din.

Our sages teach that a convert has always had a Jewish soul at their core – this is merely a process of reconnection. We can’t wait to welcome you home!
